Im still a fairly new smith, i recently started getting my steel to yellow temperature and there is much more slag. How do you deal with it? I have a hefty wire block but it seems to waste heat getting it all off.. should i just be knocking it off the steel carefully then keep going to save heat?

I stopped death gripping my hammer and holding it right nice and loose with an adjusted handle. No more joint or finger pain but now I have a fat blister at the top of my hand from swinging correctly. Send help 😅🥲
