So I decided to get a wok - did my research, got the yosukata carbon steel preseasoned 13.5. saw all the videos about how preseasoned doesn't meant seasoned, etc
Opened the instructions, it says to use soapy water and a scouring pad. I had heard you don't do this once seasoned, but figured it was to get the travel gunk off before seasoning.
Got it in warm soapy water with a scouring pad, man it just kept giving off black stuff. Dried it with paper towel, lot of grey black stuff, then the manual said before seasoning repeat the hot soapy water and scouring pad (I'm using one of those dark green scouring pad, like the rougher side of a sponge.)
Dry it off, no black/grey residue this time. But it doesn't look uniform like some videos I saw, it took a bunch of very visible scratches and the edges look so rough.
Did I really mess up? Is it no big deal? Or do I need to go even farther and clean again before I season?
