I used to sleep approx 8 hours straight, with no interruptions. Lately (late 20s) I’ve had trouble sleeping this way. I seldom sleep more than 3-4 hours without an interruption. When I try to go to bed, often at midnight or 1am I wake up at 2,3 or 4 and then at the earliest sign of daylight around 4am, 5:30 or 6. I try to sleep in til 8:30-9:30 as luckily I don’t have obligations until 10-11 most days (class), but I never get enough sleep to feel rested. This is because I have a lot of trouble falling asleep after I wake up...it often takes me 45-60 minutes...which feels like a big waste of time since I’m not SLEEPING during that period. The sleep I’ve been getting feels really choppy, like I am frequently half-waking up even in the periods when I’m “sleeping”...I never actually sleep “deeply” anymore. It is almost like I am nearly always 1/4 awake.
What are some ways I can systematically address this so that I can get more sleep and hopefully sleep for longer periods of time continuously?
