Is it ever ok….?

I was having an interesting conversation with one of my good friends so i’d thought I get a few more opinions.
Do you think it will ever be appropriate to date an old friends ex? By old friend, I mean someone you were once friends (more like acquaintances) with but not currently. Would you still approach them and ask if it’s ok? Is it appropriate if they have children together?
