Friend’s GF (F24) rubs me the wrong way, but maybe I got a wrong impression
Post Body

Hi reddit, so I wanted some advice on the following situation. This situation is about a good friend of mine and his gf.To clarify I have not met this woman yet, so obviously a lot can change with that. So me (M26) just moved back to my home city after college in the Midwest. My best friend (M26) lets call Aaron and I are child hood friends that have kept up with each other, even when I was away for college and the couple extra years I stayed up there. We both went through our tribulations and struggles. I would label us late bloomer types. We aren’t all too focused at 16-18. And while I floundered initially, I eventually got past my struggles and graduated college. While at the same time Aaron struggled with alcoholism, he was able to get into treatment and overcome his demons. While, I was away for college I was able to have some relationship/fling experiences. While even the best of these relationships didn’t last a whole long time, ( it’s hard when you see your future in another location) I still don’t hold on hard feelings and am on good terms with these exs. I found that at the very least some of these relationships helped me in terms of finding personal boundaries, along with things I like in a person and things I don’t like if you get my point.

Aaron on the other hand while I had been gone, had enough struggles that he never really got romantically involved with someone. After AA treatment, and as Aaron had begun to rebuild his life I suggested to him that maybe it wouldn’t be a horrible idea for him to socialize with some women. I figured socialization and experience with the other sex would be good for him, considering he didn’t do much since HS in this regard. Fast forward a couple months and a girl lets call Kara (F24) had a crush on him since HS DM’d him on Instagram, confessing she always liked him. And when he asked me about it, I told him he had nothing to lose. Even if it didn’t work out, it would be good dating experience for him. Well they decided to date each other exclusively, which I was happy to see my best friend have someone he fancied and could share intimacy with. However, after 6 months I’m starting to see things wear on Aaron. He has a fairly busy schedule working 5-6 days a week, sometimes even working 7 days a week. She lives in the suburb we grew up in not far from his work, which is approximately 1 hour driving with traffic from the city Aaron and I live in currently. Kara is unable to commute to him at the current moment, due to eyesight issues with driving. Which puts a lot of pressure on him to make the drive all the time especially on off days. And Aaron is someone who I know from past experiences will like his space from time to time( even as someone who is pretty extroverted). Like just having a solid day to stay home and play video games, or watch some Netflix to mellow out. I know he hasn’t been able to have one of those days in a while. This has cut into the time we see each other in person, but honestly I’m pretty understanding that he has a busy week and he wants to make time with Kara. She messages him a lot at work which isn’t totally unusual, but has noticed she has mentioned things such as “ I can’t live without you.” She has started questioning about people he follows on IG. And he’s told me recently that he wants to have a talk with her about having some boundaries. However in this same conversation he tells me that, Kara told him she is following me on IG. Keep in mind, I’ve never met or interacted with Kara. Which to some could be taken as a friendly gesture, but honestly I feel a little creeped out. Next month we all are supposed to meet up for the first time at a concert, along with my friends.

I know that Kara knows who I am, but it gives me weird vibes. Granted, I’ve never met her before but I’ve never gotten healthy vibes from her. And I know the other people in Aaron’s life haven’t exactly either. When introducing him to her friends, she got very wasted and expected him to drive. Which doesn’t sit well with me considering his past with alcohol. I just feel like she is too immature.. Furthermore, she isn’t doing too much else with her life at the present moment. But I don’t want to interfere too much, I just want to be a good friend who is there to help support him. When he wants my advice I give it to him, but I certainly don’t want to become some puppet master to him regarding this. I just can’t help but feel a little concerned at how attached she has become in 6 months compared to how he feels about her. He has told me that he knows she isn’t the one. So reddit, am I looking too deep into this? And also what advice would you give me?

Relevant Background info: The suburb we grew up was pretty upscale. Lots of rich kids with more money and nothing to push them in life. I wanted to go to college somewhere else, and experience living. Kara’s story isn’t too uncommon for people who decided to stay and live in the suburb.
