Hi Redditors, need some advice. I just got out of a 4 year relationship of dating that was long distance (Texas /Louisiana). After 4 years of dating my now ex gave me an ultimatum by Christmas that just passed (2021) to propose. We both are trying to finish grad school & I wanted us to focus on finishing & doing so after so I chose not to meet the deadline. I have been divorced before so I felt the need to take my time and do it when I’m ready & when I felt it was right, not have someone tell me when to do it or try & rush me. So yeah, ultimately I didn’t by our anniversary (Dec 17th). Then she said I have till Christmas Day (5 days later). I didn’t so we mutually broke it off but planned on working through it, she said she would ultimately give me to February while we were broken up to do it & change my mind. That week after Christmas she says she’s going to a town nearby with her best friend & wont be around her phone to talk on it for 2 days. I waited to call her till Friday (NYE) the day after she apparently got back on that Thursday to talk about counseling and a couple’s group session. (Mind you, this is 6 days later from Christmas Day)she tells me she met a guy, had an instant connection. 3 days later (that next Monday, (January 3rd) her relationship status on Facebook is changed to being with him. A photo of them uploaded on fb and instagram at her parents house, she’s already taken him over to meet the family “always a good time with this one” her family is in the comments (and his) saying how cute they are etc; congrats etc and proud; like they moved on and her and I never existed. (I was very close to her family). In the comments also she is saying to his family she can’t wait to meet them, and a few days after the pic she had already went and met some of his family). The photos of me were all obviously deleted. All this transpired in a matter of days after 4 YEARS being together. It makes no sense, I don’t know if she has been seeing this guy while she was with me. It would make sense if she did but she swears she didn’t. The timeline of everything & how fast she moved on after telling me we would work through it mind blows me, (especially the family rallying behind her & taking him to meet them) I don’t know if she truly loved me or actually wanted me to be the one to propose, but just wanted an engagement. I want try & reconcile; buy how can I with all of that? I wanted to go to a couples therapy to try & get us there to get married. It seems her way of handling the breakup changing the status & moving so quick with this guy is out of retaliation. I don’t know what direction to head and don’t know what I should do. I myself have met someone else too but would rather get back with who I was with for 4 years. If it means getting engaged, I would; the detachment from her is killing me.
