I planned a date for my bf(21M) and I (22F) to take time to draw one another. I thought it would be super wholesome and a fun way to create quality time together.
Plans didn’t go the way I expected when my bf was super proud of his mediocre drawing of me. And by proud, I meant shockingly serious. The exchange of our drawings was awkward. He’s had drawing experience but is average at best. I told him I liked it and hung it up because I knew how much his passion for art meant to him. So I ignored the shock and moved on.
Now when he comes over, he’ll often address how much I look like the drawing. I’ve been having self image issues and today it finally broke me when I heard it again. I let him know and it hurt him a lot even though he understood how I felt. I don’t know how to solve this at all.
Was I in the wrong for having such low esteem that his drawing could have affected my confidence?
