How should I [20M] approach this situation with my girlfriend [21F]?
Post Body

So lets start off by saying my social skills are beyond ass. I was raised sheltered and bed ridden for a long time so Im starting from scratch. She knows this.

That being said, while she understands when I fuck up I dont mean what I said the way she takes it, it still hurts on both sides and Id rather avoid that if possible.

So, weve been together for about a month. We met in what is supposed to be rehab, but we both got misplaced in there from the hospital since neither of us were using substance or drugs or anything like that.

She really liked me and things took off. I never really dated before so while we were in there I told her "im not saying no, i just need time to process things."

When we got out, she was dating another guy. Shes the type of person who wont say no to a request, so their relationship lasted about 2 days. At this point we decided we were gonna be friends but did have SOME feelings. She dated another guy for about 2 months. Towards the end of the first month she started confiding in me her problems and she told me she wasnt into him and she wanted to be with me.

She broke up with him, we got together and now she says shes the happiest shes ever been and she wanted me the whole time. I believe her, she is sincere. She revealed that the reason she ended up in the facility is that her ex fiance tried to kill her by dropping a shard of meth in her drink, (she doesnt do drugs or meth I know this first hand) and it was an overdose.

He left town after this.

So fast forward to now, she still talked to him on and off before I told her to block him about three weeks ago. Were both desperate for jobs, and she picked up a job at a call center. And found out HE works there.

She thinks beggars cant be choosers and she will have to ignore them, and because shes a new hire management wont do anything for her. I disagree, its different when one tried to kill you.

She mentioned that sometimes she retains feelings for people in the past but doesnt act on them. Im worried something might happen here, how do i approach this without seeming controlling or oppressive and without hurting feelings?
