Post Body

I (26/F) have a roommate (24/M) who I moved in with last year in July after being close friends for 4 years. We found a 3 story 2 bed/2 bath house for a good cost in a somewhat dangerous part of town. We got along well and it seemed like we made each other really happy. For July-Dec, we planned movie nights together, road trips, I went to a wedding as his plus one, and it seemed like we got along well. He's single and I'm in an open relationship. (But we've always been platonic and a little flirty.) After he got back to the apartment after Christmas at home, he seemed stoney and upset, and told me he wished he lived alone and also said he didn't wanna change anything. He said he doesn't like having another person around and he doesn't want to have to live up to any expectations i have (i have very few). He also said my cat meows at night when i'm not home and it wakes him up which upsets him. Since then, i've tried being out more and avoiding him, and i've tried to be home a little more at night to comfort my cat so she doesn't yowl overnight (i think she misses me). Yesterday, we talked again, and he said things like "i don't know how to talk to you, i can't talk to you like how i talk to my brother or closest guy friend". He said I go on about things he's not interested in or makes him unformforable like my hobbies or politics. He said he's been building resentment due to the cat waking him up and feeling uncomfortable in our conversations when i say things he doesn't agree with. He premised everything with "it's not personal" and "i recognize most of this is my fault from not communicating". I feel so torn down and sad and shellshocked. I'm questioning all of our friendship, wondering how much happiness he was faking. I'm heavily considering moving in with my primary gf (i don't really date anyone else) but that situation is a little unstable too and i don't have money to rent a second place. My landlord also won't respond to any emails and i'm trying to figure out sublease stuff. Anyway, how do i even act normal or feel ok around my roommate now? I'm overthinking everything i bring up, and i feel like i have a double bind of feeling like what i say is wrong or uninteresting, and that i'm hard to talk to and don't say enough. I'm so sad, this person made me so happy last year. Looking for any advice from people who have been in similar situations.
