I (28F) have been married to my husband (31M) for 3 years and dated for a year and half before getting married. The last year or so he has become very distant but controlling at the same time.
We used to go out with friends, travel on short weekend trips, etc. and now it is all I can do to get him to go anywhere. He has also become obsessive about checking our bank account and credit card transactions at least every 30 minutes and interrogating me on every single purchase.
Financially we are doing better than ever, both have good upper management jobs, $50k in savings that we add to monthly, contributing to our retirement accounts. So I know it's not financially motivated.
Last week I went to Target and picked up some makeup and laundry detergent which was less that $35 and by the time I got home, he had already seen the transaction on our bank and seemed upset. I asked him why he was upset and he said that I just buy stupid stuff. I didn't want to argue so I just listened.
Then two days ago, I come home and he has bought a new car for himself without consulting me at all. Where do I go from here? I upset him by buying things like laundry detergent but he thinks I should just go along with him buying a new car without my input?!?!?
