42 year monogamous / marriage. About a year ago, I raised wanting to have sex and go to a therapist together. Thought the sex might bring us closer together. She told me in a white wine moment that about sex "I had my kids..I'm good" and that her body image issues would make that very hard for her. No sex in over 15 years. I don't have any attraction for her and told her I feel like we are roommates. She didn't disagree. We briefly tried counseling - she wouldn't engage. She makes comments to me like "everyone has a right to be happy" and "we don't have much in common anymore." During an argument she said "Do whatever you need to do." I've concluded that she is not unhappy, is fine with me around, but won't take the initiative to change anything.
I want to be in love with someone and have an affectionate, sensual, relationship based in friendship. Maybe I have "shiny object syndrome" (I AM a Taurus) but I don't think this is too much to ask and I don't believe it can or will occur with my wife. Starting therapy next week (for me). I am thinking of leaving, but scared at my age to possibly end up ill and alone - catastrophic thinking. But I feel like situation is sucking my soul dry... Any similar folks? What did you do?
