Had no idea how to phrase this concisely but I'm in a rather confusing situation. My girlfriend and I have been dating for nearly 3 years and from the beginning she made it clear she was potentially interested in non-monogamy. About a year ago we decided to pull the trigger and do an open relationship with some basic ground rules but neither one of us have had sex outside the relationship yet.

I was initially the more hesitant one, but came around to the idea and was okay with at least trying and seeing how we felt. After a few months, I went on a date and told her about it. Before I had sex with this person, I messaged my girlfriend to make sure this was okay with her and she didn't have any second thoughts- she told me she did and I thanked my date for her time and left without doing anything.

We had a conversation and she mentioned that it was a lot scarier than she thought in the moment but she didn't want to stop being open for now, just wanted to take a break from actively looking.

So now I'm in a weird situation - we both agree that we are open, but neither of us are actively searching (i.e. no dating apps) for anyone and are both probably too busy for something to happen organically.

Any advice on what to do in this situation? I've communicated my confusion with the situation but she says she doesn't really know the answer either. She wants the freedom of an open relationship but doesn't seem to desire the actual non-relationship sex that it entails.

For the record, I would like to attempt least attempt the open relationship but would be totally fine closing it if she was not interested.
