I’m in a tough spot right now and could use some advice. My girlfriend recently broke up with me after a female friend called me late at night. This friend and I have a bit of history—we flirted back in college, but nothing ever came of it. We’ve remained just friends since then.
Here’s what happened: My friend called me late at night, asking me to call her back urgently. When I did, my girlfriend was suspicious and asked the friend a lot of questions. My friend told her the truth—we’ve never dated or been more than friends, but we did flirt a bit in the past. She also mentioned that she sometimes calls me when she’s going through tough times because she struggles with depression, and I’ve been there to support her.
My girlfriend found out that the last time my friend and I talked was in May, which was during our relationship. It was about her brother being in an accident, and there was nothing inappropriate about our conversation. Still, my girlfriend feels betrayed and ended things because of it.
I’m heartbroken. I feel like I was just being a supportive friend, but I understand why my girlfriend feels the way she does. I don’t want to lose her, but she blocked me from all communication!
Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did you handle it? Is there any way to salvage my relationship, or should I respect her decision and move on?
