I wanted to share a Poly sucess story and hope it encourages anyone out there who may be apprehensive or newer to CNM as I am. I (33M) am in a 10 year long relationship with my wife "V"(33F) that was monogamous until last March when she realized she was bisexual. We agreed to open it up at that point for several reasons, the main being so she could pursue a relationship with a woman. Since then I've spent a lot of time doom scrolling and reading every post about poly relationships going south, couples separating, rules based CNM breaking down, and delt with feelings of jealousy and insecurity. At times this last year I have felt untethered from the identity I've built during a 10 year journey with a woman I consider my soul mate and my vision of what the future holds. I constantly questioned if all this inner turmoil is "worth it" and if the decision to become Poly is the first step towards the end of my marriage.
Now for the good part. My wife woke up with flu-like symptoms on Thursday and has always had major anxiety about COVID after loosing her Grandmother to it last year. I work in the medical field (which doesn't help her anxiety!) and have strange and long hours. Since becoming sick her GF "R" (30F) has already come over to clean and disinfect our house, do all our laundry, bring her favorite pizza, and keep her company while I worked late/overnight. My GF "K" (27F) made a giant batch of the mexican chicken and veggie soup that she always had when sick growing up and brought it over while I took V to wait 2 hours in line for a COVID test.
Just having these 2 women immediately offer their support to my wife has kind of been my Eureka moment for CNM and made me appreciate what we have gained. R has become my lesbian stoner buddy who I can smoke with, share old stories, dumb hypothetical questions, and laugh with. R and K have started hanging out as friends without V or me around, they go often go to lesbian/queer women Facebook group meetups together, K is pansexual and very new to the city we live in and trying to make new friends. We have dog and cat sat for each other, lent our cars to each other when someone has broken down, and had great game nights together. I just really feel the love in this new polycule right now, like we are starting to build a little family between us as a group of individuals without any relatives in this city during a time when it is difficult to make connections.
So I hope my happy moment encourages anyone with doubts out there to continue to work towards happiness in their poly relationships!
