Hi, y’all!
I was just wondering if any of you had any tips for dealing with fixation (primarily with a new or potential partner). I know this isn’t an issue that everyone deals with, but I am a very empathetic, romantic, and emotionally expressive person (who is also bipolar, therefore I feel VERY deeply). This all means that when I meet and start talking to someone I am very interested in I tend to become infatuated with them (which is currently my situation - I have been regularly talking to a long-time crush who appears to be genuinely interested, and I simply cannot get them off my mind).
I try hard to fill my time and mind with activities that bring me closer to personal and work related goals, and am able to not think about them too much when I am with my other partner, but my mind always goes back to her. Years of relationships and wisdom have taught me to not be overbearing while feeling this way, as it can easily overwhelm the other person, and I also completely recognize and respect their time and energy put towards their goals, but thinking about this only reduces my anxiety just a little bit, and still means I’m thinking about her.
How can I work to maintain a healthy and clearly interested position with someone without becoming too overwhelming?
How can I reduce the amount I think about/romanticize a person while still maintaining deep and passionate feelings towards them?
How can I nurture a budding relationship without giving it too much attention?
Thank you!
