I love trashy reality tv and always go in with eyes wide open that it's highly edited and most people just want to make it as influencers. However, this season of The Ultimatum can really be used as a study of what happens when you open a relationship and do none of the work.
JR & Sandy- they are the people who just use poly as an excuse to sleep with anyone who will pay them attention and do none of the actual work to make sure they are emotionally ready. They don't care how their actions hurt other people, they just got given permission to sleep around and that's all that they care about.
Nick & Dave- They are the people who think that they are going to be drowning in attention and affection, and then quickly realize they aren't the prize they thought they were and then get super jealous that their partners are thriving with the attention of others. Their reaction to this causes them to try to control their partners every move even though they agreed to the situation to begin with.
Scotty- He's the guy that read all the books and has a lot of philosophical beliefs about how Poly is higher evolved... but cannot understand that people are always going to be people and don't fit in a box. Gets very confused that he doesn't have a harem even though he believes he's the most amazing partner (when he's really not).
Vanessa, Aria, Mariah- These are the partners who were PUD, but then start to thrive because they are being recognized for the amazing women they are. They start to see all they bring to the table and how little their partners have been giving them when they start dating other people who flood them with NRE which causes the original partners to have a total meltdown.
There are some others on the show, but I can't watch currently without giggling about how the monos doing bad poly somehow made it onto Netflix. Anywho, thought it might make yall giggle too.
