Rocky morning with my long term partner, Rose. In an attempt to have what should have been a simple conversation. We end up snipping at each other and we both start our day upset.
Here's the thing. I feel as though their communication style has changed in the last year. In particular it seems to coincide with a new relationship. They have an ongoing date with Marigold.
My guess is that many of us can relate to the experience of spending a lot of time with someone and picking up some of their mannerisms, spoken or otherwise.
Right now Rose is upset and feeling like I don't hear them. Meanwhile I'm upset! I feel like they are communicating in a totally different way that doesn't work for me or us.
Has anyone else ever experienced this? How do I center the conversation around our communication needs and styles? Marigold is 30/31, Rose is 35 and I'm 44. Rose and I and have been together 6 years. I'm sharing the age range because I suspect that's a contributing factor in the communication breakdown.
