What’s the etiquette around checking in with a metamour who you already know when you’re starting something new with their partner?

I know I don’t need permission but I feel like I wanna start saying … something. But sometimes when me and the partner are only hanging casually or sleeping together I feel like it’s overkill! And I was advised early by a therapist to let my partner/fwb handle that discussion within their relationship. But I’m also tired of feeling like the vibe is awkward and I see my friend and we just never directly talk about how we’re sleeping with the same person.
