I'm starting to think this sub needs a mega-thread on questions about when it's appropriate to do a program besides nsuns.
In the meantime, here's my probably not-so-unique background story and question.
I'm a 52yo male, 5'8", 172lb. I've been a runner for several years, but as I aged, I lost the ability to outrun what I ate. Last may, I weighed 197, but could still run a 2hr half marathon (I swear my gut passed the finish line a full second before the rest of my body).
I went low carb last may, and dumped a bunch of initial weight. I also started a standard PPL routine, and did that from May to August last year, then started nsuns in August. My weight has been about the same for the last 4 months or so, but I've lost almost two inches from my waist at navel, so at least some of the right stuff is happening. In a perfect world, I'd keep lifting heavy, but drop a few more pounds.
My starting numbers for nsuns were (in lbs) Bench-160; Squat-225; DL-205; OHP-80.
I hit a stall in ALL of my lifts at about week 12 (Bench-215; Squat-265; DL-280; OHP-120). In addition to the stall, I had a lot of aches I didn't like - and I began to not enjoy working out, so I reset everything down about 20% and worked back from there. The reset was definitely the right thing to do, and I feel like the form on all of my lifts is much better now.
As of today (week 22), I'm just about back to where my maxes were in week 12 (but my OHP TM is up to 125), and I feel a lot better about my lifting, and I'm definitely less sore than I was.
But, like many others here, I wonder from time to time if nsuns is the best program for me. I know there are some lifters here older than me, but I also wonder if there are limits to my strength growth. I don't mind the volume of nsuns at all, but I'm quite curious to hear if anyone thinks a different program may be better for me (or if nsuns is the best choice).
TL;DR - I'm 52, and on nsuns for 22 weeks and wondering if it's (still) the best program for me.
