Doing chinups/pushups on off days

What do you guys think about doing Chinups/pushups/abs as well as cardio on rest days? Sorta how GSLP has you do them pyramid style. A few sets of chins/pushups and then cardio for 20 or 30 minutes. Do you think it will do more harm in recovery and not make much changes? Or would it help preserve muscle a bit more?
