Reflecting after the big turkey day, I realized I was getting so frustrated with my friends and family. Everyone was impressed with my weight loss and were (excessively) encouraging me to continue - like I get it, I had weight to lose. 90% of these people followed up with “you look so great, I wish I could do it too.” I replied you can! It’s easy and has so many benefits outside of weight loss. Every single person responds: “Oh no, I couldn’t do keto. I just love bread and pasta.” And I respond every time: “We ALL love bread and pasta, those used to be my favorite foods. You are not unique in your love of carbs.”
Then followed conversations about the adjustment period, keto-friendly replacements (my recent discovery is edamame noodles which is SUPER exciting although I try to limit my soy intake). But at the end of the day, I usually just drop the conversation. You’re either ready to make a change in your WOE or you’re not and nothing I say will convince you.
So all this to say, kudos to you, my supportive keto reddit community. Your strength of will and commitment to your health is admirable and envious to many. Thanks for supporting me on my journey!
