I am getting minor surgery done and need to go under general anaesthetic. The info sheet the hospital gave me talked about carb loading before surgery. It says I need to drink half a litre (HALF A FRICKEN LITRE) of apple or cran juice 3 hours before my surgery in order to have a successful recovery. This seems like a LOT of sugar, especially for someone who rarely consumes sugar. I am concerned I may get sick to my stomach or spike my blood sugar dangerously high. Has anyone else had experience with this? Is it necessary to have that much sugar pre-surgery?
