I'm relatively new to low carb/keto. I'm easing into it (aiming for fewer than 40 net carbs/day for now) but so far it feels too luxurious to be "real."
For example, yesterday I had egg "muffins" for breakfast and a salad with carnitas and roasted veggies (and guac...mmm) for lunch. By the end of the workday I didn't feel that gnawing, desperate hunger that usually hits around 5. I went to a wine bar after work for a coworker's farewell party and was able to enjoy a glass of dry pinot, some almonds, and the charcuterie board. In the past when I've dieted it felt like I was wearing a scarlet letter all day. There were so many places I couldn't go or events I couldn't enjoy because I was too preoccupied with the menu. Even programs that bill themselves as "letting you eat the foods you love" (I'm looking at you, Weight Watchers) were laughably restrictive at times.
But I'm 2 pounds down after less than a week (I realize it's only water at this point, but it's still a serious motivator), so there must be something to it. Feels too good to stop now. :D
