I don't see oxidative stress being mentioned in any low carb discussion or article, but this morning my pharmacist suggested me that mi high total cholesterol can be due to excessive free radicals and advised me to take a coeQ10 supplement. I'd like to hear you guys opinion about that.. is it worth taking it, should I be worried about oxidative stress?
This is also a follow up on my other question, I cut back on saturated fat and started eating avocados (I can't say I like them) in my salads, and using butter only for cooking, adding olive oil in the plate to the cooked vegetables.
This is the updated table:
Parameter | Initial | 4 months of lchf | 6m lchf (low Sat. F) |
---|---|---|---|
Total | 238 | 295 | 278 |
HDL | 94 | 75.5 | 86 |
Trig | 51 | <70 | <70 |
So I'm not concerned anymore about being walking straight to a heart attack but I'm still trying to evaluate the pros and cons. Eating grains (and whatever I wanted) I had better numbers but also a lot of belly fat, which looked awful with my skinny face, arms and legs. Eating low carb made me feel happy with my body for the first time in my life, at the expense of a higher LDL and total cholesterol. I don't think this latest numbers imply any long therm risk and I have to say I totally prefer those high numbers rather than the belly fat and the chronic lethargic feeling. Am I being to irresponsable or should I take extra measures to keep low carbing and still lower my LDL? I really don't see how I could do that.

Edit: I can't seem to add multiple line breaks..
