Any time you think the word "next", your consciousness is immediately fast-forwarded to the next point in time where a decision needs to be made. A blurb of text describes the events of the skipped time, and you behave normally to all outside observers as you Next.

Post Body

This more or less comes from a series of Flash text games, one of which is called Paraphore. In one, you play a character whose consciousness is not directly connected to their body, instead acting through an intermediary "narrator" that describes all the things happening around them. They recognize that, and exploit it to skip over two days of cleaning out a filthy apartment.

As a twist on that, the power of the Next still has you in direct control of your body, but when you want to skip past something generally considered boring (for example - a long commute, a long workday, conversation with that one family member, chores) you merely think the word "Next," you black out, get a text summary of what happened in the intervening time, and you're immediately in control again at a point of time that's considered interesting.

Nobody else knows that you can Next (unless you tell them), nor can they differentiate between normal you and Next-driven you, though if you're Nexting over a conversation all they'll get are bland "uh-huh"-like responses.

You don't have control over when a Next will end, though generally they'll end at the end of the task at hand. Another person can break you out of a Next - for example by asking a question.

You cannot Next over something where a higher level of thought is required - homework, tests, workdays where many decisions need to be made. But you can Next over pretty much anything requiring a minimal level of thought - it might work better if you are following a routine rather than doing something novel.
