Are hamstring stretches supposed to feel different from normal stretches?

Whenever I stretch my hamstrings it feels fundamentally uncomfortable in a different way to the "normal" stretch discomfort. I was just wondering if this was normal and something I should just power through or if it is something I should pay special attention to.
