Will sitting cross-legged for long periods eventually makes it easier?

Post Body

I've recently started working on my flexibility with the goals of improving my hamstring/lower back flexibility and being able to comfortably sit on the floor in a cross legged position without pain.

While I have been doing a daily 30 min flex. routine, I have also started just sitting cross legged watching TV for about 30-45 mins at a time. Haven't really seen any improvements yet after about 2 weeks.

Raising up my bum on a pillow I find it fairly comfortable to sit cross legged, but as soon as I unfurl from the position I have agonizing (temporary) pain in the outer side of my ankles and (what i think is) the Sartorius muscles.

My question is, even though it's painful afterwards, if i just keep doing this will it eventually just loosen things up and make it easier, or is this a dumb approach and I'm better off not pushing it too hard and focusing on other enabling stretches? Or any other advice about this for an inflexible boi.

TLDR; Even though it's painful, if I just persist with sitting cross legged on the floor for a decent stint every day will it just eventually loosen up all the muscles and make it easier for me?
