Obama endorses open nominating process while Clintons endorse Harris

No Democrat (at least no Democrat who is actually a name) is going to challenge Harris for the nomination now that Biden has endorsed her.

So yes, it's going to be an "open nominating process," but Harris will face token opposition at best. Now, I'm not saying anything that Obama isn't already aware of. He understands the optics of it all and is going to wait until Harris is officially nominated to throw his support publicly behind her.

Obama isn't going to do that. Not with this much time left before the election. He knows his word has weight and he knows that every action and inaction gets attention.

This was, as NYT writer Jamelle Bouie said today, fait accompli. Both of Nevada's senators have endorsed Harris. Warren has endorsed her. The Congressional Black Caucus and the head of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus has endorsed her. The road is set.

Politics is as much about ego and image as everything else. It takes incredible hubris to think you can be President. And nobody wants to be seen as greedy for it. Well, almost nobody.
