I've seen many different opinions on this from people in that demographi and younger up and including some pretty gross takes about anyone doing it clearly only having the pursuit of teens in mind.
I don't personally believe the latter but I think it gives a good picture of just how strong the pushback can be.
For whatever reason there's still(? Increasingly?) this weird expectation that growing fat and decrepit halfway through the average lifespan is just A Thing That Happens.
Conversely I used to know this really chill group of 50something lifters who supported each other a ton and always helped the younger guys out and seemed to have a lot of approval in their wider network as well.
