I'm an emotional wreck because of an experience I've had recently. Nobody believes me, but everything I'm about to tell you is true. I pray that, if I can find one line soul who will understand what I've seen, it may grant me some small measure of salvation. As I was working late in my laboratory two weeks ago, I felt my consciousness flooded with an experience not unlike vertigo. My vision dimmed, and I felt a foreign presence pressing against my mind. Although its mental structure was utterly alien, I could tell right away that it was a diseased mind that had completely lost its hold on anything wholesome or savory. Every semi-coherent cognition was periodically interrupted by the most blasphemous, abhorrent imaginings, and recollections of the kind of hideous rites spoken of only by madmen in the delirious scribblings of their most twisted nightmares.
Its mind unfolded before me, revealing times yet to come. I saw visions of cities collapsing, torn asunder by incomprehensible weapons in the grasping paws of horrid creatures from beyond the stars. I saw massive beasts, blinking in and out of existence as they rampaged through the streets. I saw our own creations, the pinnacles of scientific technology meant to aid us, rising up in open rebellion as they slaughtered their former masters. I saw our once-great civilization retreating before an advancing wall of ice to huddle in degrading misery beneath the waves.
Then I saw its horrid form, and this was the most unfathomable thing of all. Its four tentacles were arranged in bilateral symmetry, supported by a bizarre, endoskeletal structure. Its trunk was raised off the ground by the longest of these primitive limbs, which were so clumsily arranged as to be incapable of grasping.
Perched atop this trunk was a bulbous, bony structure over which was stretched a fleshy, venous membrane. The horrid symmetry possessed by this creature continued into the details of that wretched orb, containing a mere two eyes and various sensory pits. The fine, keratin tendrils which dotted its form, were here clumped in a wild nest above its two eyes, where they hung, lifeless, in a sickening display. Behind those rudimentary ocular organs, I sensed that its accursed bilateral symmetry extended even to its brain, if one could even call it that, which possessed only two of the five lobes a brain would normally have, positioned side by side. As my wings trembled with apprehension, it spoke the name of its foul species: human.
