I have been dealing with insomnia since I was a teenager. I am now 36, and it's getting ridiculous. I like doing things with my roommates, and I can't, because they're on a normal schedule. Meanwhile, I can't fall asleep until 9 am, and I crash HARD until 6 pm. And I only get up at that point because I set an alarm to retain some iota of normalcy. When I have doctor appointments, I end up having to stay up all night and day and not sleep at all so I don't sleep through my alarm.
But it doesn't matter what I do or try. Nothing works. I've tried beta blockers, OTC sleep meds, and double or even triple doses of melatonin, and none of those have had any affect on me at all. I've also tried staying up for 24 hours to reset my sleep schedule. But it always just happens again a day or two later.
Right now, I have no health insurance and no income. I've been fighting for SSI since 2008, and I have my third hearing in March. I am hoping that, once all of that crazy mess blows over and I can stop scrambling and flailing just to survive, I won't be so stressed out. Without all that tension, maybe I'll sleep better. In the meantime, what am I supposed to do?
