Dad Classes (not too long, not short, definitely medium.)
Post Body

The longest running dad joke i have had over the years is that you can't take the baby home until the dad goes to the hospital basement and takes dad classes. That way they can just know stuff and learn a certain type of joke.

While I was driving a bus full of a group of younger teens to a church camp, I told that to the pastors daughter along with some of the other kids. When I went back to get them for the bus ride home, the pastor's daughter said, "Mr. Ooglieguy, I've been thinking about what you said and asked some of the camp staff, they never heard of that." I told her to ask her dad. When we stopped for a bathroom break, I called the pastor and told him what was going on, he was totally into it. When we got back to drop off the kids, the pastor's wife was there to pick up their kid, I guess he called her and she was in on it too. Now I have about 6 teens around to hear the answer when the girl asked her mom. She asked and her mom said, "Most of the staff at the camp was younger adults, they can't be at camp all summer and still expect to be a parent at the same time. Of course they wouldn't know about it because they haven't had any kids yet." All those teenagers bought it for around 6 months or so.

Fast forward a few years and the pastor's daughter got married and is expecting. While we were at a BBQ at her parents house, I asked her if her husband was prepared for dad class. Her husband asked what that was and without missing a beat, she explained it to him. He was so confused. She knows the truth really but it's been a fun little inside joke for a while. I'm glad to pass along the fun of that joke to people outside of my own family.
