So I've been getting into the kitchen more often, and I'm fed up of not having a proper chef's knife. I'm dirt poor, but I got £20 for my birthday recently, and I'd like to get the best knife that I can for my small budget (£20-30).
I've had a look at the recommendations from the getting started section, and I can't find exact matches for those ones in the UK, but after having a look around, I've found this Wusthof and this Victorinox (or maybe this one?)
I'm leaning towards the Wusthof, but thought I'd ask for some advice anyway. Is there anything else in my budget I should be looking at? A better place to buy from in the UK?
Obligatory questionnaire answers:
- Style?
I'm looking for something more like a traditional European chef's knife - Steel?
Stainless I think. This is my first "good" knife and I'm bad at forming good habits so I probably wouldn't take proper care of a carbon steel blade. - Handle?
Western - Grip?
Pinch grip - Length?
Around 8"/20cm - Use cases?
Mostly chopping veg. I'm pretty new to the kitchen, so probably something versatile. I won't be putting it through anything too strenuous though. - Care? whetstones / honing / paid service
I'm gonna get a hone, but I probably won't be able to get a proper whetstone for a while. - Budget?
£20-£30
