Iv been on this sub a long time and do a lot of lurking.. every time I see someone doing a 100 push up or pull up challenge for a month or people saying they do press ups every day, everyone basically attacks them saying there going to damage rotator cuff, elbows, hips, etc..
Now I get that it isnt optimal for muscle growth, I find things like it way to repetitive to do everyday personally.. I no that it gets to a point where u will plateau..
But if you look at the likes of jason statham (I seen Hobbs&shaw recently).. in a lot of his workouts he says that he does bodyweight/calisthenics .. I no he has access to anything and the time and money too..
But can someone explain it to me why it's that bad? Like the wear and tear aspect .. iv never heard of swimmers getting serious issues.. obviously some have but I still see old people in my local pool who swim every day for years with no issues.. I still see the same runners around where I live that have been running for atleast 10 years..
Like is there that much of a difference between swimming everyday and doing push ups everyday? Or running and bodyweight squatting everyday?
you can definitely hurt yourself from swimming. i've hurt my shoulder and my hip when i went in hard. i was sore but kept going thats when i started feeling the pain. i was doing 2 miles, 6 days a week in an attempt to complete a challenge. i went from never swimming to doing that. i would switch form or swim without using one leg. there was one day my arms were in too much pain so i took a paddleboard and swam the 2 miles only for my ankle to hurt and lose that for the next day.
so tldr, abuse yourself with any exercise and you will hurt yourself
