Sit up technique?

Is there any technique to standard sit ups that I'm not aware of? I really struggle with them, but I need to be able to do them properly for an upcoming physical test. Not to sound condescending, but I see people do them so much easier than me that are in much worse shape, do they have underlying abs of steel? Are mine really that terrible? Or is there a real technique? Thanks in advance, I appreciate any help.
