Hello! Over the past few months, I've lost about 45lbs due to dieting. The past two months, I've picked up swimming for exercise. I really really like it however im hoping to add body weight training to add a bit more strength and just be overall more fit.
The way my work schedule works with the pool schedule, I basically go Monday-Thursday and swim a mile every day. I was hoping to add pull ups, push ups, crunches/other core exercise, and squats for about 20 min after swimming. Not working out until failure, but enough to feel the burn, and on Fridays or Sundays do a more intensive body weight routine, leaving myself two consecutive days in a row of rest.
I'm wondering how sustainable this could be? Should I instead maybe swim a mile and only focus on one body weight exercise/target area? My goal is mostly just gain strength, stay lean and maybe become more defined not necessarily trying to get bulky or anything just be healthier and fitter.
I'm completely new to a fitness lifestyle, so any and all advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
Congrats on the weight loss! Adding body weight training after swimming is a great idea for overall fitness
It's definitely sustainable if you listen to your body and allow for enough rest
Mixing up exercises will keep it interesting too
Good luck!
