If plants can be grown with roots fully submerged, why is it reccomended to have a drainage hole in potted plants?
Post Body

I'm going to be growing mint indoors with LEDs soon, but I can't have water all over the place. In every fish tank I own I have plants growing in the filter, ranging from spider plant to pothos. Why don't aquaponics plants get "root rot" or "drown?" Do I actually need a drain in the soil for Mint?
