MOD Post Sunday: Online Support Groups For Abuse Victims/Survivors During the Pandemic
Post Body

Hello everyone, after seeing a question about online support groups during the pandemic, I wanted to compile a list for our community. Please do keep in mind that if there is an abuse crisis center in your area, it's possible they may be offering virtual support groups during this time (through Zoom, doxy.me, or other online platforms), so consider checking with them first. Please also be aware that groups vary by timezone and location, so something available to others in their location may not be available to you during certain hours.

The following list includes a mix of online support groups, online message forums, online chat boards, and virtual meetings. If you have any suggestions I'm happy to update the list.

Please visit this Tech Safety link for detailed information about Zoom safety.

  • A Way Out offers a directory of online abuse support groups, though the list is primarily for sexual violence support. Of these, After Silence is a great option for sexual violence survivors; they offer an online support group, message board, and chat room for survivors. Pandora's Aquarium is another online support forum for sexual violence survivors.

  • 1 in 6 offers weekly chat-based support groups for male sexual violence survivors.

  • isurvive is an online support group for child abuse survivors - for all forms of abuse. They offer various online forums for survivors of ritualized abuse, child sexual abuse, survivors in contact/relationships with their abusers, male survivors, survivors with PTSD, and more. In addition, they also offer a private chat room.

  • HAVOCA, or Help for Adult Survivors of Child Abuse offers a private online chat forum for survivors.

  • Mankind, located in the UK, provides counseling via video call to male survivors of sexual violence.

  • DomesticShelters.org Victims and Survivors Community is an online domestic violence support group via Facebook.

  • Survivors of Incest Anonymous is hosting online and phone support group meetings for incest survivors.

  • Hope Recovery offers Christian-based virtual support meetings for trauma and domestic violence survivors. They offer a variety of meeting topics; some of these involve support for survivors struggling with disordered eating. Please be aware the groups occur during Eastern Time.

  • MOSAC, or Mothers of Sexually Abused Children, offers a list of three online support groups for parents of children who have experienced sexual abuse.
