As someone who also plays some tactical shooters, I'd love to see the compass borrowed. Either as an item one would have to have in hand, or as a display that stays on screen. Showing the player their azimuth, along with an ability to plot azimuths on the world map. Would be especially neat if the map were able to include topo information. Traditional land navigation is fascinating, and definitely fits the period.
