"what door do I come in?" or how not to do a phone interview
Post Body

so as of next month I'm transferring to a new store. my old assistant manager whom i've talked about here fought to get me to come to his new store where he's store manager. as a result my current assistant manager has had to sift through the resume pile to find someone to replace me.

the current crop of people has been interesting, but none more than Stoner Joe. BSc (current assistant manager) calls him up and the convo went something like this:

BSc: hey, it's BSc from [Canadian music store].

SJ: ...uh.... uh... hey.

BSc: got your resume here, and i was just phoning to see if we can get you in for an interview. how does Thursday at 2:30 sound?

SJ: um.... uh... sorry, who is this?

BSc: it's BSc from [store].

Repeat x3. Surprisingly he didn't hang up the phone and just say forget it. the guy eventually strung a complete sentence together, but the best part hadn't happened yet.

BSc: so Thursday, 2:30. sound good?

SJ: ...uh... what door do i come in?

BSc: ...... the front door, the main entrance.

SJ: ...uh... okay. sorry, what was your name again?

to put it into perspective, there is literally only one main entrance. you could use the door to rentals, but that'll still take you to the sales floor because our store is open-concept (i.e. most of our stores have a completely separate rentals section tucked away from the sales floor)

needless to say, he didn't show up for his interview.
