ESG back with more music retail tales...
This story doesn't really involve irate customers, as is the custom here, but it does involve a customer who seemed... inconsiderate.
Young Fella (YF) comes in fairly regularly. I've seen him a handful of times, usually with a female friend. He's a bit eccentric, but bearable. The other day YF comes in with his sweet, legally blind, polite grandmother. YF looks around at the guitar wall, scanning for new stuff, while grandma sits on a stool resting. YF then proceeds to shred the living crap out of a single guitar for the better part of an hour and a half. it was a semi-busy day so we were running around helping people out, all with this guy's "playing" going on in the background. I checked on him a couple times, as did my coworker GS.
finally GS has had enough (he's an older guy who doesn't beat around the bush with customers). he asks me how long YF and his grandmother - who looked extremely bored and was nodding off - had been there, and I said "perhaps an hour and a half". GS then walks to the grandmother, asks if she's ok (to which I assume she says yes) and then goes up to YF and basically tells him "look kid, i understand you wanna play, but your grandmother is with you, and you're basically ignoring her." YF mutters something in response, and then GS tells him in a few short words that his grandmother looks pretty tired. YF glances over at his grandmother, puts the guitar down (he didn't put it back on the wall) and then collects his grandmother to head out. I felt bad for the grandmother. i got the distinct feeling that in her old age she's become a pushover and lets her grandson walk all over her... either that or her children (YF's mom/dad) palms her off on him.
