Hi, my goal is to have a higher level of serotonin to try to have more control on ejaculation (I’ve tried drugs, behavioral therapy, kegels… etc. but now I want to try supplements and see if they can help).
The theory is that serotonin plays a key role in the control of premature ejaculation and increasing serotonin levels in specific part of the brain can help to get a better control on ejaculation. Of course the reality is extremely complicated and the chance to treat premature ejaculation with 2 supplements is a tiny one.
From what I understand (I’ve zero knowledge about chemistry/biochemistry):
Tryptophan: precursor of serotonin, more tryptophan available -> more serotonin (of course the assumption is that there are no other elements limiting the amount of serotonin synthesis given high levels of tryptophan).
folic acid/folate: helps in the synthesis monoamine receptors like serotonin. There are some studies where is reviewed a therapy with SSRI and folate so the combination of tryptophan folate should (emphasis on should) be safe.
Have anyone tried something similar? Are there different forms of tryptophan folic acid available? Do you know other supplements that can have an SSRI like effect?
