While I can't give a legitimate reason as to why a regular home would need one other than certain diseases increase the need to pee and urinals can help both men and women in those situations. I don't think the average person wants a urinal.
I can tell you that urinals (even women's urinals) are easier to clean and generally use less water than toilets. Even low flows. (There are even no water options, but those require oil every so often.) So if you have frequent urination you can save yourself a lot of time and energy (and possibly money if you pay for water) by getting a urinal.
