A belated review of Purr Detention, Melbourne, June 2024.

The sea of tartan mini-skirts, the dancefloor filled with gyrating bodies and beaming smiles. It was a wonderful night where the theme was fun, fun, fun! The skimpy costumes were stunning but for me the vibe didn't feel overly sexually charged, although I didn't venture into the 'play rooms'.

For me it felt like a celebration of like-minded souls in a judgement free space. Diverse demographic, with ages ranging from early 20s to late 50s .

The techno pop music got everybody dancing with vigour. Nirvana's 'Smells like Teen Spirit' was a well-chosen accompaniment to a stunning display of professional pole dancing.

I thought it was impeccably organised, safe and professional. The photographer was impressive, having good rapport with the crowd, and routinely sharing back images. He had a knack of coaxing couples (or more) into provocative but tasteful poses. The fruit of his work are currently on the Purr website and worth a look!

Yes, I'd definitely go again.
