BFWB male dress down advice

Hey all,
My wife and I are heading to BFWB on 31 May. We have been to Shed 16 which seems a little less formal and dress down into just a towel as there are saunas and spas sometimes as soon as we enter.
What is the go with BFWB. I assume people stay dressed in nice attire until the upstairs opens. Is it open as soon as the bar opens or a few hours later?
What do men wear when dressing down, just jocks or boxers or do people just go nude or wear more proactive underwear like g strings or jock straps. It's easy when you can just wrap a towel around you and walk around, no thinking involved.
