How much scoby liquid to use as starter?

My first ever scoby is just about ready to be used for my first fermentation. I was reading that you can use the liquid from growing the scoby as your starter. From what I have been seeing, the scoby liquid can be pretty acidic so I'm assuming I would want to use less than typical starter from a batch of finished kombucha? How much would I want to use for say a gallon?
