I couldn't even finish the season and then I wondered why; why couldn't i watch the travesty that was Hells Kitchen Season 17- All Stars. It's a season that many people including myself wanted before actually seeing it. It made sense on paper as well, to invite some of the fan favorites back to show their skills and improvement.
But unlike other shows and there All Stars, Hells Kitchen actively fucked up almost EVERY storyline this season and completely changed the characters we loved in the first place! I could do this for almost every contestant but the 3 biggest offenders.
#3 - Van
Van was portrayed as a young Hot headed chef, that could really go far with some time and maturity. He comes back with a cool level head and literally gets sent home the first time he's up for 1 mistake. this is the first massive hit for the season; as the previous eliminations weren't "Good" by any means but at the very least it was somewhat reasonable. Van's elimination felt like someone had to go and everyone else was bringing the drama so it had to be him.
#2 Robyn & Jennifer
I'm actually putting these two together, because it's kind of funny how easy it would've been to have a satisfying storyline for them both. Jennifer was done dirty on her season and left an elimination before many thought. Robyn was massively annoying on her season and is often considered as one of the weakest black jacket chefs (Behind Matt & Josh of course) So how would this season change things? IT WOULDN'T remember that disappointing storyline, here it is from a different point of view. Could say it's not as bad since Jennifer and Robyn didn't have beef, but the feeling is still the same; it's not as if Robyn was blazing her way to the top, she struggled into Black jackets, just to be the first gone AGAIN
#1 Barbie
I'm not exaggerating when I say Barbie S10 is one of the best single season underdog stories in the entire show. No other underdog in the show had to deal with as much hostility as her, nor has a contestant improved from cooking raw scallops day 1 , to running both teams entire meat station without a single mistake the entire night. She never backed down from anyone and was one of my favorites from S10. But this season? She's just portrayed to be a psycho. She's literally portrayed as if everything people said in S10 was true.
I also get you can't control the contestants actions and how they act; but this is a REALITY TV SHOW I'm not tasting any of this shit. Gordon could've easily said "MMM" and just let Jennifer move on, how tf does Robyn, Elise and Barbie have 13 nominations between the 3 while Van didn't even get 1?
