When to get tested for stis

Basically, I have only had sex with one person, and they have only had unprotected sex with me. They’ve had protected sex with a few other people maybe 8 or so years ago. I’m anticipating a new sexual encounter, should I get tested beforehand based on my sexual history or would it be safe to assume I’m all good? (Obviously I’ve never had any symptoms either).
