My credit keeps going down

I use mountain America credit union and my credit was due on the last day of 2023, when I went to go pay it off it wouldn’t let me, so when I went to pay it the next day it worked but then I checked my credit score on Experian and credit karma it dropped 57 point. So due to an error I’m being punished? How could I go about fixing this.
