Cougars, how do you feel about cubs who try to approach you at a non social venue such as a grocery store or mall?

How can I go about approaching women in this situation, without seeming creepy? Also, should I be direct in my approach vs indirect? ( meaning approaching a woman by saying , “hey I just thought you were cute and wanted to come over and talk to you?” . I figured older women would be turned off by that because they don’t expect to get approached by a much younger man in that environment.)

I’m 35, looking for a woman 50 . Also, I would like to know if trying these environments would be better than , say, online or a nightclub ?
